Candice and Nicola nail it, while Paris just looks pathetic

Now that we all know the meaning of the word “ratchet” (thank you, Miley), let’s consider its ultimate exemplification, commonly known as the BET Awards.

In this week’s style spectrum, nearly all who tanked walked the ill-fated red carpet at Sunday night’s ceremony, and every one of them works in music.

Meanwhile, this week’s well-dressed defied liquefying heat. As Outkast said: so fresh, so clean.

The hits:

Arizona Muse

When your last name is Muse, you’d better play the part.

The model attended London’s annual Serpentine Gallery Summer Party in an Emilio Pucci gown that was pure Grecian goddess, styled easily with sleek hair and gold Zagliani clutch.

Meanwhile, a model of a sexier variety hit up Paris men’s fashion week. The lady wore Dior.

Gugu Mbatha-Raw

Mbatha-Raw was one of approximately two people who didn’t look a mess at the BET Awards.

The burgeoning star was the opposite, in fact, boasting bright, dewy skin to offset a crisp Jason Wu dress.

Keira Knightley

Keira kills it again — shocking!

Though the actress has worn many lovely ensembles making the rounds for “Begin Again,” the embroidered Simone Rocha set she donned to the film’s London photo call was a welcomed break from her usual floor-length fare.

Extra points for the Prada Mary Janes.

The misses:

BET Awards bust No. 1.

If only we had a disco stick to knock sense into the confused rapper, who’s doing Lady Gaga circa 2009.

To her credit, this dress does look bulletproof, so perhaps it was entirely pre-emptive.

Lady Gaga

Speaking of … Judging by this Montreal Jazz Festival get-up, Gaga has moved on to bigger and better things, like casual bejeweled bridal gowns, tulle capes and bouffant tiaras.

She’s either deranged or auditioning for “Mob Wives.”

Lil Mama

BET Awards bust No. 2 is none other than Miss Lip Gloss herself.

You know, we totally get the desire to feel more fashion forward (the dress, for her, isn’t even that bad). But, as we’ve told Tyra, matching wigs to clothing is a terrible idea, especially when your skin is the same tawny shade.

Tatyana Ali

Tatyana, where the hell have YOU been?

Nevermind your blip stint as a singer that begs the question why you’re even at the BET Awards — this keyhole dress is creating a chewy situation, as you look like a piece of steak fat.

Lightening round: Lessons from Nicola Peltz

This week, both Paris Hilton and Ashanti were on the Nicola Peltz tip — blond, wearing all-white with cutouts.

But whereas Peltz pulled through in a simple Stella McCartney slip, the other two flopped worse than Paris’s career, looking cheap and tired and dusty.
