Hammer-wielding attack suspect turns self in

The “Coward” turned himself in.

Anthony Coward, 28, who cops identified as the prime suspect in a string of hammer-attack robberies in Brooklyn and Queens, turned himself in Monday morning, cops said.

Police say Coward’s brutal robbery spree began March 5th, when he allegedly beat a 26-year-old woman over the head with a silver hammer in Fresh Meadows, making off with her handbag. The woman was taken to Jamaica Hospital where she was treated for non-life-threatening injuries, according to authorities.

Two months later, on May 4, Coward allegedly clocked a 23-year-old man over the head with a hammer at the Rockaway Avenue Subway Station in Brownsville, police said. The thief fled with the victim’s wallet. The victim was treated for his injuries at Brookdale Hospital.

Then last Wednesday, Coward went after a 32-year-old man, who was trying to buy a Metro Card at the Fulton Street & Rockaway Avenue train station, according to police. The 32-year-old victim was robbed of his wallet before being taken to Brookdale hospital with a head injury, authorities said.

Cops say Coward turned himself in Monday morning, a day after police released his name and photo in connection with the robbery pattern.

Charges against Coward are pending, according to police.
