This might be Vince Young’s last shot

Vince Young is coming back. He hopes.

The third overall pick in the 2006 NFL Draft, a two-time Pro Bowl selection, will be a part of the Browns’ voluntary mini-camp on a tryout basis this week, according to a Fox26 report.

Young took a physical on Monday for Cleveland. Its other options at quarterback aren’t exactly enticing. There is Brian Hoyer, who is recovering from a torn ACL, and little-known Alex Tanney. The Browns have the fourth pick in the draft and could select Johnny Manziel or another top quarterback.

Browns owner Jimmy Haslam, a Tennessean, watched Young excel with the Titans. Young’s last significant moment came in 2011 with the Eagles, when he filled in for an injured Michael Vick and playing in six games.  His most famous moment of the season came when he called Philadelphia a “dream team,” a nickname that was easily mocked with the team going 8-8.

Since then, Young has spent time with the Bills and Packers, but did not see regular-season action. He has been on the lookout for opportunities, including tweeting Larry Fitzgerald in 2012: “you know I can help tell coach” when the Cardinals’ quarterback situation looked particularly bleak.

Young has had financial issues, and recently took care of his bankruptcy case.

“I am pleased with the quick resolution of my bankruptcy case,” Young told the Houston Chronicle last month. “With all these battles behind me, I am able to devote my sole focus on family, football and pursuing all opportunities in front of me.”

This could be Young’s last and best chance to make an NFL team. The former Heisman Trophy runner-up turns 31 in May and is three seasons removed from his best play.
