Too soon: Dolphins bully jokes about hazing draft pick

You can’t blame Richie Incognito for this one.

Mike Pouncey was one of three Dolphins cited as responsible for the bullying of fellow offensive lineman Jonathan Martin. That didn’t stop him from poking fun at the situation Thursday night during the NFL Draft.

After Miami drafted Tennessee offensive tackle Ja’Wuan James with the 19th pick, Pouncey tweeted this:

Pouncey was immediately lambasted by some of his followers for the insensitive hazing joke, including Hall of Famer Warren Sapp.

One of the incidents at the center of the Dolphins controversy was a lavish “rookie dinner” from 2012 in which Martin and the team’s other newcomers were handed an expensive bill.

Pouncey is the only party in the bullying scandal who has remained with the Dolphins. Incognito was released, John Jerry wasn’t re-signed this offseason and landed on the Giants, and after a distressed Martin left the team, he was dealt to the 49ers.

Pouncey has a history of social media embarrassments. He and his brother — Steelers center Maurkice Pouncey — were photographed wearing “Free Hernandez” hats in support of former University of Florida teammate Aaron Hernandez, who is in jail facing murder charges.
