Elderly woman dies after stove fire

An elderly woman died Saturday after being overcome by smoke from a stove fire in her Lower East Side apartment, authorities said.

Inez Kikuchi, 87, was found in distress and unable to breathe in her smoky fourth-floor Madison Street apartment around 12:56 a.m, police said.

Jesus Ramos, 57, said he smelled smoke and discovered Kikuchi’s door slightly ajar.

“I pulled the door open and she was right next to the door on her scooter. I think she was trying to get out but she got stuck,” he told The Post. She was pronounced dead at Weill Cornell Medical Center.
