Times columnist Maureen Dowd to write for magazine

Gray Lady columnist Maureen Dowd, who recently penned a piece about eating a pot-laced candy bar during a stay in a Denver hotel, will add to her duties as a “narrative journalist” writing for the New York Times magazine.

“While I can’t disclose any specific assignments yet, I can reveal that Maureen’s subject matter for the magazine will range far afield from her current bailiwick of politics, foreign affairs, Hollywood, and edible marijuana,” said magazine editor Jake Silverstein.

Dowd will continue to write her Op-Ed column for the paper, according to editorial page editor Andy Rosenthal, who said her “new adventure” will “only enhance” her regular column.

Silverstein, who jumped to the Times magazine from Texas Monthly in the spring, said the Dowd news is among a number of changes ahead of a major redesign of the magazine set for early 2015.
