Jets cut speed-demon Jacoby Ford, 5 others

The Jets reduced their roster to 75 on Sunday by cutting six players, the most notable being wide receiver and kick returner Jacoby Ford.

Ford signed a one-year deal with the Jets in March after leaving the Raiders, but the speedster had a disappointing preseason. He had just three catches for 19 yards in the three games.

In Friday’s loss to the Giants, he muffed a punt while filling in for sidelined rookie Jalen Saunders. The top two candidates to be the team’s kickoff returner are now Clyde Gates and Saalim Hakim.

The Jets also released cornerback Ras-I Dowling, a former second-round pick of the Patriots. Dowling had a strong spring, but spent much of training camp sidelined with injuries. The other cuts were wide receiver Michael Campbell, tight end Colin Anderson, fullback Chad Young and defensive end Anthony Grady.
