The 10 biggest ‘Pretty Little Liars’ shockers

Scandals, red coats, death, oh my! ABC Family’s seriously addictive series “Pretty Little Liars” returns for its fifth season Tuesday night.

And while some shocks and mysteries have yet to be resolved (like who shot Ezra), we’re looking back at the show’s biggest jaw-dropping moments that left us wondering what else “A” has up his/her sleeve.

Maya meets her untimely death (Season 2)

Apart from their battles with “A,” the “Liars” face other challenges on the series, too. Whether with family or school, the series encompasses a great deal of issues, including understanding one’s sexuality.

At first Emily struggled coming to terms with her feelings for the carefree Maya (Bianca Lawson), but eventually the two became a couple. And while their relationship had its ups and downs, it wasn’t meant to be as Emily’s first real love story came to a tragic end.

Jason is Spencer’s half-brother (Season 2)

“Pretty ‘Scandalous’ Liars” should be the real name of this show with the amount of bombshells that drop on a regular basis. Among the show’s biggest thus far? When Spencer (Troian Bellisario) discovers that Ali’s brother, Jason (Drew Van Acker), is her half-brother.

Mona reveals herself as “A” (Season 2)

For several seasons, the core four of “Liars” has been tortured by a mysterious figure known as “A.” Whether through blackmail or public humiliation, “A” has made the girls’ lives a living hell. But during the Season 2 finale, it seemed that “A’s” days of terror had finally come to an end when Spencer stumbled upon her twisted lair.

That’s right, “A” was none other than frenemy No. 1 — Mona (Janel Parrish), a k a Hanna’s other BFF.

Lighthouse of terror (Season 3)

What’s worse than being trapped in a lighthouse with your former friend’s creepy cousin? Being stuck in a lighthouse with someone who is pretending to be that said cousin.

Emily (Shay Mitchell) learned the hard way when the stalker-ish Nate (guest star Lyndon James) attacked her. Fortunately, “Liars” ally Caleb (Tyler Blackburn) came to the rescue, but things soon took a deadly turn.

Ali is alive (Season 4)

During the show’s first four seasons, the residents of Rosewood (as well as the audience) were led to believe that Alison DiLaurentis (Sasha Pieterse) was dead. But as revealed in the fourth season finale, the Queen Bee is alive and kickin’ . . . and really scared of “A.”

Ezra’s relationship with Aria was a sham (Season 4)

Being open and honest in a relationship is hard enough, but on “Pretty Little Liars” it’s next to impossible. Case in point, the long-running courtship between Aria (Lucy Hale) and her former English teacher Ezra Fitz (Ian Harding).

After locking eyes (and then lips) with one another in the very first episode of the series, it became pretty apparent that “Ezria” was in it for the long haul. All of that changed, however, when Ezra confessed to Aria that he only got close to her because of the memoir he was writing. Not only did he break her heart into a million pieces, but he did it on a chairlift of all places!

Hanna gets arrested (Season 4)

Handcuffs are the new charm bracelets in Rosewood. Last season, Hanna (Ashley Benson) found herself on the wrong side of the law after trying to protect her mom (Laura Leighton). Why such a serious offense? Well, the “Little Liar” was busted burying Mommie Dearest’s suspicious handgun. #ThisWillNotEndWell

Ezra, you are not the father (Season 4)

Paternity scares are regular plot twists on teen dramas, and “Pretty Little Liars” is no exception. After discovering that his ex-girlfriend Maggie (Larisa Oleynik) had a son named Malcolm, Ezra was led to believe that the child was his.

But after attempting to legally put his name on Malcom’s birth certificate, Mr. Fitz’s former flame came clean and admitted the 7-year-old was not his.

Red is CeCe’s color (Season 4)

If dealing with “A” wasn’t bad enough, the “Liars” had to put up with the devious shenanigans of Red Coat, too. Who is Red Coat, you ask? Much like “A,” her goal is to make the lives of Rosewood’s guiltiest residents as awful as possible.

During the show’s fourth season, however, the stylish villain was unmasked by Aria and revealed to be none other than Ali’s shady cousin, CeCe Drake.

Mrs. DiLaurentis’ grave circumstance (Season 4)

“A” has committed countless crimes over the course of four seasons, but perhaps the biggest of all came during the Season 4 finale. Before the end credits start rolling, a lifeless Jessica DiLaurentis (Andrea Parker) is dragged across the grass and then into a grave, where her attacker begins to bury her.

The question remains: Is she still alive, or is she going where she belongs, 6 feet under?
