Celebrities transform into musical icons on new ABC series

Imagine getting decked out as, say, Dolly Parton for Halloween — sky-high blond wig, glittery Western-style dress and huge prosthetic breasts — and then doing eerily accurate karaoke.

That sums up the challenge on ABC’s new talent competition, “Sing Your Face Off.”

With help from Hollywood makeup artists — as well as dance and vocal training — the show pits five celebrities against each other as they transform into iconic singers and perform in-character for a live audience and guest judges.

The six-episode series, hosted by John Barrowman, premieres with back-to-back hour-long episodes Saturday at 9 p.m. on ABC and is based on an international TV franchise entitled “Your Face Sounds Familiar.”

One competitor, actress and former “Dancing With the Stars” contestant Lisa Rinna, was assigned to channel Parton singing her hit “9 to 5” in the first episode.

“Obviously I can’t come close to touching the talent of Dolly Parton,” Rinna tells The Post. “I was scared because you don’t want to humiliate the people that you’re [imitating].”

That’s not easy, especially when you’re mirroring a flamboyant icon like Parton, who is known as much for her ample chest as her vocal and composing talents.

“All the accoutrements really help you to become that person,” says Rinna. “It was fun to drop into her and put the wig, fingernails and high-heeled shoes on — and put the boobs on!

“They had to glue them on — [they’re] very lightweight,” she says. “I’m sure they’re actually lighter than Dolly’s.”

Rinna’s weekly competitors include comedian Jon Lovitz, heavy metal singer Sebastian Bach, NBA Toronto Raptors player Landry Fields and Disney Channel actress China Anne McClain. Their transformations cross age, genre, era — and even gender — boundaries.

One moment viewers will see 15-year-old McLain strut the stage as 74-year-old icon Tina Turner; in the next Lovitz channels opera superstar Luciano Pavarotti.

Rinna, 50, will even embrace her inner wild child to become Justin Bieber in his early-teen YouTube years.

“The beautiful thing is there’s thousands of hours of Justin Bieber on YouTube,” says Rinna. “And my daughters are huge fans, so I got the girls to kind of teach me the Justin Bieber swagger, which was very helpful.”

Rinna also says her 2006 stint on “DWTS” was key to limbering up. “Even though I was a little rusty, it helped tremendously,” says Rinna, who in 2007 appeared as Roxie Hart, alongside her husband Harry Hamlin as Billy Flynn, in “Chicago” on Broadway.

As far as her inaugural stint as Parton, Rinna says she basically went with the flow, foam prosthetics and all, and hopes her inspiration would appreciate the effort. “Your inner rock star gets to come out. The challenge was how can I make it fun,” she says. “If Dolly were to see it, I’d want her to have a good chuckle over it.”
