Chinese cop leaves van dangling three stories above street

A Chinese policeman needs a lesson in driving after he lost control of a van and left it dangling three stories above a city street.

Park He, 35, was heading back to the station in Weihai City in eastern China’s Shandong province after taking part in a police operation when he spotted another car driving on the wrong side of the road, according to Europics.

Attempting to avoid the car, he swerved to the left and launched the van off a roof — wedging the vehicle between a wall and an adjacent building.

“He could have gone left or right and he chose to go left, which was a bad decision, as that was the roof of the residential building which was three stories above the street below,” a police spokesman said. “Had he gone to the right, the ending would not have been quite so spectacular.”

Supervisors have said there will be no action taken against He, who they say risked his own life in order to save somebody else.

“Everybody makes mistakes, although he may well need a refresher course in driving before we give him another van,” he added.

The van was lifted to safety by a crane operator, who secured it in place with ropes to prevent it from falling.

“It was wedged pretty tightly and there was also some debris that fell into the street below that needed to be cleared up,” the spokesman said. “Fortunately nobody was hurt seriously, so everything was right in the end.”
