PIC BY SOREN LUNDGREN NEILSON / CATERS NEWS - (PICTURED: The tiger swimming in the algae) - These stunning pictures show a normally vicious tiger calmly swimming in a pool of algae. The powerful cat takes a refreshing break by taking a dip in the bright green algae. But it looks like this big cat is scared of getting his head wet as he strains to keep it above the water. After splashing around for a bit the tiger gets out and tries to air-dry with specks of the vegetation dripping off his fur. The striking pictures were taken at Copenhagen zoo by snapper Soren Lundgren Neilson. SEE CATERS COPY.

"Britain's favourite mammal" the cute yet prickly hedgehog, has received a Royal invitation as part of the RHS Hampton Court Palace Flower Show. The show will feature the world's first "Hedgehog Street Garden". Designed by Tracy Foster for the British Hedgehog Preservation Society (BHPS) in collaboration with the People's Trust for Endangered Species (PTES), the plot will demonstrate how the public can create a safe environment for hedgehogs in their own back yards. The hedgehog was voted the "UK's favourite mammal" and declared "Britain's National Species" in a BBC Wildlife Magazine poll last year - but sadly the humble critter is now a rare sight in many gardens. Sixty years ago Britain was home to 30 million hedgehogs but it is now estimated that the population has declined to less than one million - according to a report published by the PTES in 2011. "We hope that visitors will enjoy the garden and that everyone will see that they too can help hedgehogs in their neighbourhoods,"said Jill Nelson, CEO of PTES. Pictured: Juvenile hedgehog in garden. The only female giant panda in the UK has conceived at Edinburgh Zoo in Scotland. Due to the notorious difficulty of breeding the endangered "gentle giants" Tian Tian, 10, was artificially inseminated using the sperm from Britain's only male panda - Yang Guang. While zoo staff celebrates the rare conception it is not yet known if Tian Tian will actually become pregnant because, with pandas, the embryo cannot be implanted immediately. If all goes to plan one or two blind, hairless and helpless cubs will be born as early as next month. Ian Valentine, director of giant pandas for the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland said: "Tian Tian is in great health, very relaxed, at a good weight and she's eating well as keepers and scientists continue to monitor her." Tian Tian Yang Guan, 10, are the first giant pandas to live in the UK for 17 years. Pictured: Tian Tian, Britian's only female giant panda, relaxes at Edinburg Zoo in Scotland.
