Widow’s heartbreaking goodbye to FDNY husband

The wife of a firefighter killed in a Brooklyn blaze bared her soul in an emotional Facebook post about her husband hours after he died.

Lt. Gordon “Matt” Ambelas, 40, died from smoke inhalation and third-degree burns he suffered while battling an electrical fire in Williamsburg Saturday night.

“How do I say goodbye to you Matt,” his wife, Nanette, wrote on Facebook. “You were my everything and the rock of this family. My heart will never heal and I will love you forever. I want more time!!!”

The post mentions their daughters, Giovanna, 5, and Gabriella, 8.

“My life and my children’s has forever been changed,” it read. “I was lucky enough to call you my husband for almost 10 wonderful years and thank you for giving me two of the most special part of you. Gabriella and Giovanna had the best father in the world.”

Ambelas’ wake will be held Tuesday and Wednesday at the Casey McCallum Rice Funeral Home on Nelson Avenue in Staten Island from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

The funeral will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Clare’s Church on Nelson Avenue in Staten Island.

A “pinched” air-conditioner cord in a Wilson Street apartment ignited the fire, officials said.

The apartment tenant’s three Yorkshire terriers were killed.

“I looked in the bathroom, and they were dead,” said Angel Pagan, who disputed reports of clutter in his apartment. “People always tell me that my place is very nice.”

Neighbor Madonna Hernandez, 28, said, “I heard his dogs all the time, every time I took my keys out. It’s sad that he lost his dogs.”
