The scoop on Peyton Manning’s ‘Omaha’ call

DENVER — Peyton Manning’s press conference was almost over on Wednesday when a reporter asked him “how he feels about Omaha’’ and why he says it on the field after CBS microphones caught the Broncos quarterback calling out the word “Omaha’’ some 44 times at the line of scrimmage during the Broncos win over the Chargers on Sunday.

“Is that like a fan written-in question?” Manning asked jokingly. “I’m not sure. I don’t know how to answer that.”

But then he did.

“I know a lot of people ask what Omaha means,” Manning said. “Omaha is a run play, but it could be a pass play or a play-action pass depending on a couple things: when, which way we’re going, the quarter and the jerseys that we’re wearing. So it varies, really, play to play, so, that’s … there’s your answer to that one.”
