Man breaks world record by visiting every NYC subway stop in 24 hours

A British man broke a world record by venturing to every Big Apple subway stop in less than 24 hours.

Glen Bryant, a 26-year-old pharmacist from Emsworth, jumped aboard his first train at 3 a.m. last November and didn’t leave until 1 a.m. the following day.

Bryant brought a crew of five friends, and an emergency supply of sweets, to document his journey and keep him awake through his record-breaking time of 22 hours and 26 minutes.

“It’s easier to do the challenge in a group because you have one person doing the photographs and one person doing the log book,” he told the Daily Mail. “We were up for 26 hours and if it wasn’t for my teammates, I probably would have fallen asleep.”

After snapping a quick photo at each station, Bryant would “stand clear of the closing doors” and figure out what line or stop he was going to go to next.

He didn’t get hung up by the dreaded delay announcement too many times, but had a few close calls.

“We would run from one platform to another and just about get in as the doors closed,” he said. “We had some good luck.”

Bryant is a self-proclaimed sucker for subways, saying he learned about the Guinness World Record for “fastest time to travel the entire New York City Subway” — of which he is now the proud title holder — on Wikipedia.

Before tackling the intricate 468-stop trek through the city’s subway hodgepodge, Bryant attempted to master London’s Tube system, which has 270 stations.

Bryant’s little-engine-that-could mentality didn’t help him clinch the title despite trying it 14 separate times, falling short by an hour.

While Bryant and his buddies set out to break the record Nov. 18, 2013, they didn’t find out if they officially broke it until recently.

“It took six months to find out we had actually got the record so it was a nerve-wracking wait,” he told the Daily Mail. “Now it’s official, it’s quite amazing.”
