Spate of overnight newsstand burglaries hits Manhattan

Now this is break-in news.

Cops are questioning a man after several newsstand burglaries around lower Manhattan.

“We lost $4,700 in cash . . . $800 worth of phone cards, $260 worth of electronic cigarettes and 18 cartons of cigarettes,” said Abul Hoque, 72, a salesman at a newspaper stand on 14th Street and Eighth Avenue that was hit on Friday night or Saturday morning.

The suspect attempted to break in to a second newsstand on Third Avenue and 14th Street, but a deadbolt made the attempt unsuccessful, cops said.

Another burglary took place at a newsstand at Pell Street and Broadway.

Police hauled an unidentified suspect into the 5th Precinct station house where he was being grilled by investigators.
