â– A 51-year-old man was found dead with a single gunshot wound to the head in the stairwell of a Highbridge apartment building, authorities said.
The body of William Sands was found at 10:15 p.m. Thursday on a second-floor landing of the building on West 165th Street near Anderson Avenue, according to police.
Sands, who lived in a building across the street, was pronounced dead at Lincoln Hospital.
There have been no arrests and the investigation is ongoing.
 Brooklyn
â– Three brazen bandits struck while the irony was hot, storming into a Sunset Park security store, roughing up the employee and carrying off a small safe, Âauthorities said.
The robbers entered ECT CCTV Total Security Solution on 60th Street near Eighth Avenue at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, and one tackled a 26-year-old worker behind the counter, according to police.
An accomplice grabbed a small safe containing $30,000 and stuffed it into a bag, while the third tough roughed up the staffer, cops said.
The employee was taken to Lutheran Medical Center where he was listed in stable condition.
One crook is between
6 feet tall and 6-foot-4 with a slim build and cornrows, and was last seen wearing a gray sweatshirt.
An accomplice, between 5-foot-7 and 5-foot-10, also has a slim build and wore a black hoodie.
The third tough, between 5-foot-7 and 6 feet tall, has a medium build, wore a red sweatshirt and had a gun tucked into his waistband, though the firearm was not used in the robbery. All three are believed to be in their 20s.
■Police are asking for the public’s help in finding a man who knifed a livery driver during a robbery in Bedford-Stuyvesant, authorities said.
The knife-wielding goon hailed the cab just before 10 p.m. on April 18 and asked to be driven to a Kosciuszko Street address, cops said.
At the destination, the felonious fare pulled a knife and jammed it into the hack’s chest while demanding money and valuables, police said.
The wounded cabby managed to escape from the car, while the robber jumped into the driver’s seat and floored the accelerator, officials said.
The victim was treated at Kings County Hospital and released.
The suspect, believed to be in his late 30s, stands about Â5-foot-10 and weighs about 200 pounds.

â– The thug who terrorized a 90-year-old man in Sunnyside by forcing the senior to drive to ATMs and withdraw cash was arrested Thursday, cops said.
Wade Hairston, 28, approached the elderly victim walking to his car outside the Stop & Shop on 48th Street near 37th Avenue at about 10:45 a.m. on July 25, police said.
The brute grabbed the old-timer by the neck and forced him to drive to two ATMs and reveal his card PIN so the robber could withdraw cash, cops said.
It wasn’t immediately clear how much cash the thief scored.
Hairston was nabbed after investigators got a tip, and identified by the victim from surveillance photos, sources said.
Hairston was charged with robbery, criminal obstruction of breathing, unlawful imprisonment and harassment.
■He’s no mensch.
AÂ swiped a handful of cash from a synagogue donation box in Kew Gardens, police sources said.
The holy terror was caught on surveillance video dipping into the collection box inside the Congregation Adas YerÂeim synagogue on Metropolitan Avenue near 124th Street at about 12:30 p.m. on July 25, cops said.
It’s not known exactly how the temple thief, who pilfered approximately $75, got into the building, authorities said.
The suspect stands about 5-foot-10 and weighs about 185 pounds.
He was last seen wearing a multicolored striped short-sleeve shirt, beige slacks, and beige shoes, cops said.
