Pelley’s ‘CBS News’ gets best views since 2006

The Scott Pelley-anchored “CBS Evening News” has posted its best total-viewership numbers since September 2006 — back when Katie Couric debuted as that newscast’s anchor.

For the week ending Jan. 10, the “CBS Evening News” averaged 8.1 million viewers — still trailing the top-rated “NBC Nightly News” (10.7 million viewers with Brian Williams) and ABC’s “World News” (9.4 million viewers with Diane Sawyer), but adding over 900,000 viewers versus the same week in 2013.

Pelley’s newscast also had its best week since last February in the “money” news demo (2.1 million viewers in adults 25-54).

“Nightly News,” meanwhile, had its best week in total viewers since July 2012 (London Summer Olympics), while “World News” had its best showing in adults 25-54 in three years (week of Jan. 31, 2011).
Don’t quite know how to explain the ratings spikes across-the-board, but there you have it.
