WTC trespassing charges dropped against CNN journalists

Trespassing charges were dropped Thursday against two CNN journalists accused of trying to sneak into the World Trade Center following a rash of security breaches at the site.

Connor Boals, 26, and Yon Pomrenze, 35, faced charges of misdemeanor attempted criminal trespass and criminal trespass, a violation, after making four attempts to get onto Ground Zero in March.

Boals, who prosecutors said had a camera strapped to his head when he tried to get inside the site, received a conditional discharge and two days’ community service. Charges against Pomrenze were completely dismissed.

“I hope what happened with the charges today reflect what actually happened,” said Pomrenze.

Boals declined to comment.

His attorney, Jethro Eisenstein, said, “Connor would rather report the news than be the news.”

The two news producers were busted following a string of security lapses at the Freedom Tower. Three daredevil BASE jumpers were charged for leaping off the building last September, while a plucky New Jersey teen sneaked past a sleeping security guard to snap pics on the very top of the tower.
