Funnyman Jerry Seinfeld isn’t laughing over mounting criticism that his shows are not diverse enough — and thinks it’s a bunch of “PC nonsense.”
The “Seinfeld” co-creator lost his cool when a BuzzFeed interviewer asked him about the predominantly white male guests on his Web-based series, “Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee.”
He has for years faced similar questions about a lack of diversity on the smash NBC hit that shot him to stardom.
“I have noticed that most of the guests are mostly white males,” BuzzFeed business editor Peter Lauria said.
Seinfeld cut him off before Lauria could get out the actual question.
“Yeah, let’s get into that!” the agitated comic said in an interview aired on “CBS This Morning.”
Seinfeld then goaded the audience into taking his side.
“Take a look around, Peter, what do you see? A lotta whitey! What’s going on here?” said Seinfeld, drawing laughs.
“Oh, this really pisses me off, but go ahead. Really pisses me off.”
The aggressive move worked, and Lauria backed down.
The interviewer pivoted to a more pleasant topic, asking about a recent episode with “30 Rock” creator Tina Fey.
Seinfeld talked about the appearance, and then took it upon himself to revisit the racial-diversity issue.
“People think it’s the Census or something,” Seinfeld said.
“I mean, this has gotta represent the actual pie chart of America? Who cares? Funny is the world that I live in. You’re funny, I’m interested. You’re not funny, I’m not interested. And I have no interest in gender or race or anything like that.”
The comic added, “To me, it’s anti-comedy. It’s more about PC nonsense than ‘Are you making us laugh or not?’ ”
He and pal Jason Alexander did a mini-“Seinfeld” reunion at halftime of the Super Bowl on Sunday, to hype “Coffee.”
The spot included “Seinfeld’s” mailman nemesis, played by Wayne Knight.
“Seinfeld” was a huge, nine-season hit for NBC, but there were no minorities among the show’s main stars and just a smattering of nonwhites among recurring characters.
