Brit Gleeks out

Pop songstress Britney Spears has joined the “Glee” club.

The singer tweeted pictures of herself on the set of Fox’s comedy, writing to her fans, “what’s up Gleeks? Having so much fun on set!! Can’t wait for you guys to see the episode!”

“Glee” creator Ryan Murphy confirmed earlier this month that the cast would do an episode filled with Spears’ songs, similar to the Madonna-themed episode in Season 1 — but this time, Spears herself would make an appearance.

In the second episode of the show’s sophomore season, the pop star will make a cameo when one of the characters — space cadet cheerleader Brittany (Heather Morris) — has to go to the dentist, played by guest star John Stamos.

When he puts her under anesthesia, she begins to hallucinate how she can be more like the other Britney.

Murphy said that the cameo was Britney’s idea, and that, “She sort of wants to do a ‘Where’s Waldo?’-type thing with ‘Where’s Britney?’ ”

Despite the star’s troubles within the past couple of years — including public breakdowns, psychiatric hospitalization and a now-famous head-shaving incident — Murphy says the show will steer clear of her personal life and told MTV it would be “a love letter to her music.”

“Britney Spears is pop culture, and I think she’ s been through a lot,” Murphy said. “I want to do something that just says, ‘You know what, thank you for what you have done. And we’re encouraging you to continue to be doing as fantastic as you are.’

“We’re handling Britney with kid gloves.”

Britney’s episode is set to air on Fox on Tuesday, Sept. 8.
