Bettor wins big on Super Bowl safety for a second time

The Super Bowl couldn’t have started better for Jona Rechnitz.

The New York resident took home $25,000 on a $500 bet that a safety would be the first score of Super Bowl XLVIII, TMZ reported.

Don’t call Rechnitz lucky, though: This was the second time he hit it big on a prop bet, according to the website. Rechnitz also won big in 2012 when the Giants caused an intentional grounding penalty on Tom Brady in the end zone, resulting in a safety that scored him $50,000.

This year, the Broncos had a miscommunication and center Manny Ramirez snapped the ball past quarterback Peyton Manning and the ball rolled into the end zone. Running back Knowshon Moreno landed on it for a Seahawks safety.

He donated his winnings to charity then, and told TMZ he’s donating this year’s winnings to the Simon Wiesenthal Center and to the Stewart J. Rahr Foundation.
