Simon in for knight of his life

He’s no longer an “Idol” star, but acid-tongued Simon Cowell is in line for a loftier title — knight.

The surly “X Factor” and ex-“American Idol” judge should be “Sir Simon” some time in 2011, according to a published report.

The list of knights-to-be will be issued on Dec. 31, and Cowell’s name will be on it, London’s Sunday Mail reported.

Cowell has the backing of Labor and Conservative politicians alike, thanks to his work raising funds for Haitian earthquake relief, the newspaper said.

The caustic, quick-witted Cowell, 51, resigned from “Idol” this year so he can bring “X Factor” — his popular British talent show — to American TV next fall.

Cowell joked last year that his chances of a knighthood were “less than zero” but added, ” ‘Sir Simon’ has a nice ring to it.”
