Andrew Cuomo sworn in as 56th NY governor

ALBANY, N.Y. — Andrew Cuomo has been sworn into office as New York’s 56th governor in a private ceremony Friday night effective at midnight.

His father, former Gov. Mario Cuomo, attended the event at the governor’s mansion in Albany along with Andrew Cuomo’s daughters and his girlfriend and housemate, Food Channel star Sandra Lee.

Andrew Cuomo plans to work Saturday, beginning with an 8:30 a.m. cabinet meeting. A short public swearing-in ceremony is scheduled for his first day on the job, a gesture designed to signal his resolve to tackle New York’s historic fiscal and ethical crises.

Cuomo’s low-key inauguration on Saturday will include a public ceremony in a small reception parlor at the Capitol called the War Room for its murals of battles.

Lt. Gov. Robert Duffy was also sworn in.
