Drunk driver crashes into NYPD headquarters, blames GPS

Here’s a sobering thought: Don’t drive drunk and ram your car into police headquarters.

But that’s exactly what an allegedly intoxicated man did when he crashed his car at 1 Police Plaza on Friday morning, police sources said. The man then tried to talk his way out of an arrest, blaming it all on his GPS system.

Around 7:15 a.m., cops took the man into custody after he tried to not-so-stealthily drive his car past two security barriers at police headquarters. The man, who was driving with a woman in the passenger seat, entered the plaza at Frankfort and Gold streets by tailgating the authorized car in front of him, police sources said.

He slipped through one pressurized barrier behind the other car, but came to an abrupt stop when he collided with the next security gate at Avenue of the Finest and Rose Street. When cops approached his Volkswagen — which is now missing a bumper — he blamed modern technology.

“My GPS took me this way,” the man said, according to police sources.

It was unclear exactly where he was trying to go.
