De Blasio announces start of .nyc domain ‘land rush’

The Big Apple is up for grabs — at least on the Web.

Mayor de Blasio announced Monday that any business, organization or resident with a physical address in New York City can reserve a piece of digital real estate before the official public launch on Oct. 8.

Applications for the .nyc domain are now available at www.OwnIt.nyc. Prices range from $60 to $80.

During the 60-day “land rush,” the only applicants guaranteed a domain name are those without competitors seeking the same name. If more than one entity applies for the same URL, a bidding war will be held online.
