This week’s couple: Hey, neighbor

Considering Marshal, 32, and Chelsea, 31, were neighbors, it seemed the two would find a way to get close.

They are both die-hard football fans, and their meet-up spot, the whiskey & beer bar Bondurants, carried their preferred spirits (her, whiskey; him, beer) in abundance.

But sometimes having things in common on the surface doesn’t make for a deeper connection. They both decided that instead of exchanging numbers, they’ll just see each other around the neighborhood.

She said:

My first impression of Marshal was that he was cute and tall, which I appreciate, since I am on the taller side. We did the usual first date small talk: what we do for work, where we’re from, interests, et cetera. He was nice and outgoing.

Bondurants was great! The bartenders really knew their beer and even let me try samples before pouring me a full drink. The food was really good, and the menu had plenty of nonmeat options for me. We shared orders of the grilled cheese, tater tots and fried green tomatoes.

We live a block away from each other, so we walked back together, but he did not ask for my number, and that’s fine.

Maybe I’ll see him around the neighborhood. I had low expectations and was pleasantly surprised to have a lot of fun.

He said:

I arrived early, so I was able to spot Chelsea before she spotted me. We sat down and discovered pretty soon after talking that we both live on the Upper East Side, just one block away from one another.

The conversation was good throughout the night. She is a big football fan, which was cool to hear. We shared three appetizers, but I discovered Chelsea is a vegetarian, and I am a big meat-eater.

We each ordered beer. Bondurants had a great selection of drinks to choose from. When we left, we walked downtown and continued talking until we arrived near our apartments. I had a nice time, and we shared some interests, but I did not feel like we had much chemistry. I didn’t ask for her number because I didn’t really think that it would have went anywhere.
