Thought poutine was bad? Canadians unveil bar food-filled Bloody Mary

Do you enjoy pairing your hangover-helping Bloody Marys with a plate of greasy eats? Canadian sports bar Score on Davie (1262 Davie St., Vancouver) is simplifying the process by combining both into one super-size cocktail.

Called the Checkmate, the beverage starts with a basic glass of Caesar, a Canadian riff on a Bloody Mary that uses clamato juice (a clam-tomato mixed juice) rather than tomato juice. It’s then topped with a full roasted chicken, a Score burger, slider, chicken wings, onion rings, a hot dog slathered with pulled pork and mac ’n’ cheese, and a whipped cream-topped brownie (because no meal is complete without dessert). Altogether, the decadent “drink” costs $60 (US $53).

Though you’d think such a creation would defy any laws of physics, Score on Davie owner Jesse Ritchie says it’s not as top-heavy as you’d imagine. “It seems hard to balance but it’s actually pretty easy,” he tells Eater Vancouver. “We just use a few skewers and some techniques we’ve picked up with the heaped-high Caesars we already sell.”

This isn’t the first time the Vancouver-based bar has whipped up such a crazy concoction. Previous Bloody Caesars have included the Grilled Chaesar, topped with a deep-fried pickle, grilled cheese sandwich and onion rings; the Ain’t No Thang, topped with hot wings and onion rings; the Big Score, topped with a hard-boiled egg, bacon, sausage, pirogi and onion rings; and the Luongo, topped with Bocconcini cheese, chorizo sausage, pepperonis and peperoncini peppers.
