Deranged Long Island man who faked drowning at Jones Beach busted for impersonating cop

The deranged Long Island man busted for faking his drowning at Jones Beach last year was arrested yesterday for impersonating a cop and trying to coax female strangers in to his van, police said.

Raymond Roth, 48, pulled the creepy stunt twice over the past month — and is suspected in a third incident, cops said.

The Long Beach man allegedly pulled up next to a woman in Freeport on March 16th and identified himself as an police officer — then ordered her to climb inside his wood-paneled white van, Nassau police said.

When she declined, Roth — who has said he’s now in culinary school — briefly ran after her on foot, cops said.

Five days later, on March 21 — just hours after his sentencing for the faked disappearance — Roth pulled up next to another Freeport woman and invited her into his vehicle, cops said.

He said he was a police officer.

When she refused, he threatened to arrest her, cops said.

Roth also followed her on foot until the victim entered a check cashing store and asked employees to lock him out, cops said.

Staffers called 911, but he fled before police arrived.

Roth can be seen on surveillance footage asking employees to buzz him in.

Police expect to charge Roth with attempted kidnapping, two counts of first-degree criminal impersonation and one count of attempted burglary, according to Nassau County Det. Lt. Robert Galgano.

He’ll be arraigned tomorrow in Hempstead.

Roth faked his disappearance at Jones Beach last July in an attempt to collect on a $410,000 insurance policy.

Currently enrolled in culinary school, Roth pleaded guilty to a conspiracy rap earlier this month and was sentenced to 90 days in jail and probation.

He also agreed to repay $35,000 that authorities spent searching for him.
