Horse runs wild, dragging carriage and hitting taxi in NYC

A carriage horse broke loose near Central Park this afternoon, shaking up a tourist who tried to slow it down before the carriage it was hauling slammed into a taxi door and other carriage drivers were able to corral it, cops and witnesses said.

Stunned onlookers, including Mets centerfielder Matt den Dekker, quickly took to Twitter about the runaway horse, named Pumpkin.

The chase began as the horse was waiting in the carriage line on Sixth Avenue at 59th Street and its bridle got caught in the carriage in front of it.

Pumpkin the horse seen with his carriage.

The driver got out and tried to put it back on, but the horse bolted into the park before returning to 59th Street, where a cab door opened and struck the carriage, slowing the horse so drivers could catch it, cops said.

NYCLASS, the animal rights group looking to shut down the industry, was quick to seize on the incident, posting a photo of the dented cab door and looking for witnesses on Twitter.

“URGENT! Please contact us if you witnessed tonight’s carriage horse escape in Central Park!” the group tweeted.

Cops said Pumpkin was not injured during the incident, and was immediately brought back to the stable to rest after drivers put its bridle back on.

The unidentified tourist declined medical attention.
