The dirty secrets behind ‘The Bachelor’

When Courtney Robertson signed up for the winter 2012 edition of “The Bachelor,” she vowed to treat her relationship with Ben Flajnik like any other. So when they were filming in Puerto Rico and she had an urge to skinny-dip with her suitor in the Atlantic, she didn’t hold back.

The viewers saw Robertson with her arms wrapped around Flajnik’s neck, the waves breaking against them. But what was going on underwater wasn’t nearly so PG.

“To answer your question, yes. Ben and I did have sex in the ocean. On-camera,” Robertson reveals in her new memoir. “It was immediate but it was only for about 20 seconds and, um, it was just the tip.”

The raven-haired beauty was dubbed a “man-eater,” “liar” and “mean girl” by other contestants during her stint on Season 16 of “The Bachelor.” Her caustic jabs at competitors during the confessional interviews, and take-no-prisoners focus on Flajnik, made her a lightning rod for tabloids. But Robertson, 30, estimates that less than one percent of the footage shot ended up airing — and she’s dishing on the other 99 percent in “I Didn’t Come Here to Make Friends: Confessions of a Reality Show Villain,” out June 24.

“If I’m going to do it, I’m going to go for it and tell the whole story,” Robertson tells The Post. “Nobody wants the watered-down version.”

Robertson, who was a model in Los Angeles when she auditioned for “The Bachelor,” insists she did the show because “I really am a hopeless romantic at heart.”

During the 12-hour final audition, she was shocked to be handed a 150-question survey and an STD test, and asked point-blank if she was on birth-control pills.

After making the cut, Robertson backed out, but returned when the show promised she could leave the first night if she wasn’t into the guy.

“As soon as I got there and I saw [Flajnik], I instantly was like, ‘I want him,’ ” she says.

Although there was an endless supply of booze, Robertson kept her eye on the prize. But she reveals that fellow contestant Jenna Burke passed out drunk after a rose ceremony, and she once saw Jaclyn Swartz go to the gym with a workout bottle full of vodka.

Meanwhile, Robertson became maybe a little too friendly with the show’s producers.

“I was like, ‘These are my friends — I want to make their job as easy as possible.’ I didn’t say ‘no’ to a lot of the questions,” Robertson says about her confessional interviews, like the one in which she referred to contestant Kacie Boguskie as “a little girl in a little boy’s body.” In her book she adds, “I honestly did not know I was going to be portrayed as the worst villain in ‘Bachelor’ history . . . I genuinely thought I was being funny.”

When Robertson made it to the infamous Fantasy Suite round, she was surprised to find her producer pals left plenty of rose petals and candles — but no condoms.

Not that it stopped her and Flajnik from having sex. Three times. (It was the first time they were completely alone, without cameras.)

“We did every position under the sun, but I believe I sealed the deal when we successfully completed the reverse cowgirl,” she writes.

Robertson was given the final rose plus a whopping $80,000 Neil Lane sparkler as she accepted Flajnik’s proposal in the finale.

Afterward, though, the bloom was off as Flajnik surrounded himself with scores of bros and gushed about a woman who worked on the show having “the best boobs.”

Things went from bad to worse when a magazine published photos of him kissing another woman. Desperate to change the course of the relationship, Robertson hatched a plan to lead the paparazzi following her every move to an LA bridal shop, where she tried on gowns. Nonetheless, the pair split for good a few months after the show’s finale.

Robertson communicates with Flajnik via e-mail every now and then, and was as surprised as everyone else when rumors surfaced that he was dating 58-year-old Kris Jenner earlier this year.

“I have no words,” Robertson laughs. “It seems like they were pretty close there for a while.”

After a rebound fling with “The Bachelorette” alum Arie Luyendyk Jr., she’s now happily single.

“I’m craving normalcy,” Robertson says. “Part of me thinks I may end up back [home] in Arizona, and I’m still hoping to find love.”
