Redskins players put hands up in nod to Ferguson

Johnny Manziel provided one kind of gesture Monday night. Members of the Redskins made one that was a lot more meaningful.

The team’s secondary came out for pregame introductions with their hands raised to honor Michael Brown, the teen shot dead by a police officer in Ferguson, Mo., and those protesting in the streets of the St. Louis suburb.

“We just wanted everybody to know that we support Michael and acknowledge what happened in Ferguson,” Redskins safety Brandon Meriweather told USA Today.

“Crazy things happen every day in this world. It was all of ours idea, something we decided to do as a group just to show our support.”

The idea came from veteran members of the team’s secondary.

“Anytime you get an opportunity to do something like that, it’s something that needs to be discussed, something that you truly need to believe,” safety Ryan Clark said told the Washington Post.

“That could have been any one of us. That could have been any one of our brothers, our cousins, just anyone. We have voices, even though sometimes we don’t like to see it that way, we do have voices. We got the opportunity to do something.”
