Gov. Cuomo must be “Feelin’ Groovy.”
Music legend Paul Simon is headlining a fund-raising bash for Cuomo tonight at The Plaza hotel — just days after the governor’s campaign-finance reform bill was blocked in the state Legislature.
Cuomo’s plan sought to dramatically reduce donations given by individuals and corporations in an attempt to curb “pay-to-play” corruption.
But under the much more generous contribution limits, tonight’s event asks individuals to kick in $1,000 to $5,000 per ticket, and bundlers are raising up to $50,000 per table of 10.
Noting the recent sex harass scandal involving Vito Lopez and Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver, the state Republican Party joked about getting a hold of Simon’s setlist for the Cuomo bash tonight.
The spoof selections included:
— “The Sounds of Silence” – as sung by Andrew Cuomo and the Democratic Conference to Silver.
— “The Brooklyn Bridge Song (Feelin’ Interns)” –as sung by Vito Lopez
— “Me and Vito Down by the Schoolyard (but not within 1,000 Feet)”
— “50 Ways to Cover Up a Sex Crime”
— “The Boxley” – a mock reference to former top Silver aide Michael Boxley, who was convicted of sexual misconduct.
