Brooklyn kid drowns on class trip upstate

A Brooklyn teen drowned yesterday after he went into a lake during a class trip in upstate New York.

The 16-year-old from International HS in Prospect Heights was hiking in Bear Mountain State Park when he disappeared, according the city Department of Education.

The DOE said the teenager and another student separated from the group.

The unidentified student’s body was found in the water at around 4 p.m., according to the state Parks Department.

A department spokesman said there are no lifeguards at the lake, and swimming is not allowed there.

“Our thoughts are with the family and school community during this difficult time,” a statement from the DOE read.

In 2010, a sixth-grader from Harlem who couldn’t swim drowned during a school trip on Long Island.
