Millions spellbound by ‘Skywire’ walk

A jaw-dropping live walk across the eastern edge of the Grand Canyon was a huge draw Sunday night on the Discovery Channel.

“Skywire Live with Nik Wallenda” drew 13 million viewers for his terrifying 1,400-foot stroll across the Little Colorado River gorge.

While fans watched Wallenda, who wore moccasins made by his mother and two hi-def cameras on his chest, make his way — without a tether — 1,500 feet above the windy canyon on a two-inch thick wire, they commented in great numbers on Twitter. Some 1.3 million tweets were posted, making the “Skywire” event Sunday night’s No. 1 most social show across broadcast and cable in the US.

Wallenda, 34, who has also walked across Niagara Falls, has a contract for another special with the Discovery Channel.
