Mark-Viverito at odds with de Blasio on parks funds

City Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito expressed reservations Friday about a proposal to force well-funded park conservancies to share their donations with small or neglected parks.

Her stance, which Mark-Viverito said she plans to revisit, leaves rare daylight between her and Mayor de Blasio.

“My initial reaction is not to be very supportive of that,” she said when asked about an Albany proposal to require large park conservancies — such as the ones at Central Park and Prospect Park — to share 20 percent of their funds with smaller parks.

“I understand the intent and what it aims at, but I think that that’s something we need to discuss further,” she added.

De Blasio, who backed the controversial money-sharing proposal during last year’s mayoral campaign, called it “promising” when asked about it again Friday.

But he also left some wiggle room for himself and newly tapped Parks Commissioner Mitchell Silver — whose appointment was announced in lower Manhattan Friday.

“The goal is a more equitable approach to our parks,” said de Blasio, who also added, “No one has said we are closed on this matter. We will work with the conservancies.”
