Bynes avoids jail in bong toss plea deal

Lawyers for wacky starlet Amanda Bynes hammered out a no-jail plea deal Friday in her bizarre bong tossing case in a Manhattan court.

The “Hairspray” actress did not have to appear at the proceeding and remains holed up in her parents’ Los Angeles home while attending counseling twice a week – a condition of her deal.

The raps against her will be dropped if she keeps her nose clean for the next six months, prosecutors said Friday before Judge Diane Boyar in Manhattan Criminal Court.

“This is an important step in her rehabilitation,” said Bynes’ defense lawyer Gerald Shargel after the deal was reached. “We’re very optimistic about the future.”

Bynes was arrested in May for allegedly hurling a bong out the 36th-floor window of her West Side apartment.
She tossed it after cops responded to a report that she had smoked a joint in her building lobby, authorities said.

The former child star’s outlandish behavior included wearing a ratty blue wig to a court appearance this past summer. Bynes was discharged from an inpatient treatment facility last November in California after a six-month stint.

She was originally charged with tampering with evidence, a felony, as well as reckless endangerment and possession of marijuana.
