‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’ is biggest TV shocker at Globes

The biggest TV upset at Sunday night’s “Golden Globes” was “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” – the rookie cop show that won for best comedy series and best comedy actor.

“Saturday Night Live” alum Andy Samberg won for his lead role as goofy Detective Jake Peralta on the new Fox series, which has been underwhelming in the ratings.

It was the “Saturday Night Live” alum’s first time being nominated, and he beat out the heavyweights. Michael J. Fox (“The Michael J. Fox Show”), Jason Bateman (“Arrested Development”), Don Cheadle (“House Of Lies”) and Jim Parsons (“The Big Bang Theory”) are all past Globes winners.

Samberg appeared to be as surprised as the audience when he took the stage.

“Oh no! I didn’t prepare anything. It wasn’t gonna happen. You guys — the Globes, right? Who knew?! I guess I’ll just thank everyone,” the 35-year-old said. He then continued his speech with a hint of sarcasm, thanking all the usual suspects: Fox, the cast and the creators.

“Everyone on my team,” he added with air quotes and a giggle. “No, I really do love them, and respect them.”

For best comedy series, the show beat out “The Big Bang Theory,” “Girls,” “Modern Family” and “Parks & Recreation.”

Last year, HBO’s “Girls” won the award, and some thought it would repeat. And it’s worth pointing out that “Brooklyn” now has more Globe wins than the beloved “Parks & Rec.” Although star and Globes host Amy Poehler won Sunday for best actress in a comedy, that was the show’s first win in its six-season run.
