Amazon’s ‘Mayday’ help desk flooded with marriage proposals

Amazon Kindle users are hitting the help button, hoping to hook up with a live customer service rep.

Last September, Amazon introduced a “Mayday” button for its Kindle Fire HDX tablet that allows users to immediately talk to tech support 24/7.

In his latest letter to shareholders on Thursday, Amazon boss Jeff Bezos revealed that Mayday tech advisers have received 35 marriage proposals from customers.

“A few of the Maydays have been amusing,” Bezos acknowledged in the letter.

Another 475 customers have asked to talk to “Amy,” the attractive tech adviser who appears in commercials for the Kindle.

She is played by actress and TV host Amy Paffrath, who has appeared on MTV’s “Jersey Shore: After Hours.”

In addition, Amazon customers have “serenaded” Mayday advisers 648 times.

During a Mayday session, Kindle users can see their tech advisers but not the other way around.

Other “amusing” — some might say alarming — Mayday requests include:

  • 109 asking for help ordering a pizza.
  • 44 times in which a Mayday adviser has sung “Happy Birthday” to the customer.
  • 3 requests for a bedtime story.
