Argentina to begin settlement talks with debt holdouts

Argentine officials arrived in New York on Monday to begin discussions with a mediator about settling with the holdouts who won a $1.5 billion judgment.

The delegation is seeking a solution to a ruling that forces the country to pay holdouts, including activist investor Paul Singer, in full when it makes payments on its restructured debt.

“Mr. Kicillof, the minister of economy, and I met for several hours today. The discussions have been frank, the principal issues have been identified, and the parties have indicated an intention to continue meeting,” Dan Pollack, the Special Master appointed by US District Judge Thomas Griesa to conduct and preside over settlement talks between the parties, said Monday.

Kicillof said Argentina is committed “to continue engaging in dialogue in order to ensure fair, equitable and legal conditions, taking into account the interest of 100% of bondholders.”
