McDonald’s sales down 1.4% in US

McDonald’s reported Monday that its global same-store sales dipped 0.3 percent in February, with US sales down 1.4 percent.

The fast-food giant cited “challenging industry dynamics” and severe winter weather for the sales drop in the US.

They were down 2.6 percent in Asia/Pacific, Middle East and Africa due primarily to weakness in Japan, McDonald’s said.

The domestic decline follows drops in December and January, and these performances are “concerning of course since the US remains far and away MCD’s biggest market.”

The last time McDonald’s reported three consecutive monthly sales declines was 2003.
