Student beaten at Bronx school while guards watched: suit

A Bronx teen was pummeled unconscious by a gang of students just steps away from school security guards, who did nothing to stop the brutal beatdown, a $17 million lawsuit alleges.

David Medina’s jaw was fractured in the attack, said his mom, Ana Rivera, who is suing the city Department of Education.

“He got beaten like a dog, and treated like one,” the teary mom told The Post.

The 16-year-old was walking to gym class at Jeffrey M. Rapport HS in Mott Haven when classmates approached and demanded his sneakers, Rivera said.

Medina refused, and the violence began — while school safety officers manning the security desk near the school’s metal detectors looked on, a Bronx Supreme Court lawsuit alleges.

“He had to go through surgery. It was horrible,” Rivera said of the October 2012 incident.

School administrators never even told Rivera about the incident, she said.

The city is reviewing the allegations, a Law Department spokeswoman said.
