You would have had a better chance of spotting a polar bear at Jones Beach last week than finding a female frolicking in a one-piece. Indeed, all the coolest chicks are suiting up in bikinis this summer, showing off teensy two-piece styles in wild, neon colors. Since skin is definitely in, you’ll also find a fair amount of tankinis, as well as skate-boarder shorts that tie at the top, but are left with the strings undone.
“Wrappers” – such as Melissa Marelli’s sexy sheer pareo ($7 at Bloomingdale’s) and Christine Benedetti’s wild cheetah-print towel – are among the hottest cover-ups on the beach this summer.
Sunbathers (from left) Allie Aquece, Olga Wojcik and Cheryl Lynch were a triple treat in a colorful floral trio of beachy bikinis. Aquece’s purple tankini with white flowers was $80 at Bloomingdale’s. Wojcik got her blue bikini with flowers at TJ Max for $25. And Lynch’s fluorescent orange and yellow suit was $40 at the Hobie Shop in Merrick, L.I.
We flippled over Lauren Ardezzone’s flower festooned light blue flipflops ($15 at Steve Madden), which she wore with a red bikini with light blue piping ($70 through the Victoria’s Secret catalog).
Comrades in arms? Actually (from left) Debra Wolf, Amanda Pike and Hanna Babekov were more like buddies in bikinis — and similarly shaped sunglasses. Wolf’s wearing a light pink string bikini from Joyce Leslie ($25). Pike bought her black bikini with leopard-print lining at Urban Outfitters for $80. Babekov found her scoop neck, Pucci print bikini at Joyce Leslie for $25.
Some girls balk at wearing jewelry to the shore, but Daniela Disalvo wore trendy hoop earrings to compliment her floral, sparkle-print bikini — the same suit Brittany Spears wore on her recent Hawaiian tour!
Crystal Philipo and Meagan Picardi were aglow in their fun, reversely colored, fluorescent boy-cut bikinis. Philipo bought her suit in Puerto Rico for $20, while Picardi got hers through the Venus catalog for $66.
Noelle Carl got a lift from pals Francesca Piazza and Nikki Carl, who wear their board shorts unfastened and low on their hips — a popular way to cover up after a day at the beach. Noelle’s navy blue tankini by XOXO was $50 at Macy’s. Francesca’s red and black Calvin Klein bikini was $65 at Nordstrom, while Nikki’s red Speedo sports-bra bikini was $49.99 at the Roosevelt Field Mall.
