$5B JAVITS ‘PRICE TAG’

Nearly a year after ground was broken for the long-awaited expansion of the Javits Center, the project sits idle as Gov. Spitzer’s advisers evaluate new proposals that sources say could triple the project’s cost to $5 billion.

That price is for one option being considered, said a source familiar with the project, which was earlier estimated at $1.6 billion.

Empire State Development Corp. President Pat Foye won’t divulge details of the new proposals, but last week he said the plan developed under former Gov. George Pataki vastly understated the costs of construction.
