5 best episodes of ‘Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee’

Jerry Seinfeld’s delightfully entertaining Web series “Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee” returns on Thursday, with its fourth season premiering at noon on Crackle.

This season, Seinfeld will share his brand of caffeine and classic cars with George Wallace, Aziz Ansari, Sarah Jessica Parker, Robert Klein and Jon Stewart, and from the looks of the trailer, the episodes contain some comic gems (like SJP’s back-seat driving and off-key singing).

In honor of “Comedians in Cars”’ return, we took a look at the show’s best episodes from the past three seasons — here’s hoping Season 4 adds some new favorites.

Larry David, Season 1

For the premiere episode of “Comedians in Cars,” Seinfeld took out his TV series co-creator Larry David in a segment that basically plays like an episode of the ’90s sitcom. In it, Larry shares his theory that his marriage ended because his ex-wife disliked that he stopped drinking coffee, and Seinfeld comments, “It’s a miracle we ever got any work done, because nobody can waste time like you and me.”

Carl Reiner and Mel Brooks, season 1

Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee

For the two comedy legends — who have been friends for 62 years and eat dinner together every night — Seinfeld picked up a meal of sandwiches and chicken and brought it to Reiner’s LA house. The 17-minute episode features priceless stories and jokes from Brooks, who is still sharp as a tack at 86 years old.

David Letterman, Season 2

Comedian in Cars Getting Coffee

The famously reclusive late-night host is persuaded to leave his Connecticut home for this 18-minute long episode that covers topics like kettle corn, football and hardware stores. As a bonus, Seinfeld drives Letterman’s Volvo station wagon, tricked out with a racing engine, a gift from Paul Newman.

Louis CK, Season 3

Handout

Seinfeld and the “Louie” star trade the coffee shop for CK’s boat and cruise along the Hudson River in this episode, which features CK recounting the story of how he ran the boat aground during low tide the first time his two daughters were on it — re-enacted via animation.

George Costanza, Season 3

Seinfeld and his sitcom co-star Jason Alexander reunite in-character for this special Super Bowl episode of “Comedians in Cars.” In it, Jerry and George go to Tom’s Restaurant and debate the minutiae of “the over-cheer” in true “Seinfeld” form — with a cameo by Newman.
