Tiger Woods could target British Open after advancing rehab

Tiger Woods is inching toward a return to the golf course — perhaps in time for the British Open.

He has advanced from chipping and putting as he continues to progress from back surgery, according to his agent. The Golf Channel reported Woods was hitting shots with his driver at the Medalist Golf Club in Florida on Sunday.

“Tiger is making continual progress,” his agent, Mark Steinberg, told ESPN in a text message on Tuesday. “He feels better each day and is extending his swing as he progresses.”

Woods underwent back surgery on March 31, and has not spoken publicly since an appearance at Congressional Country Club on May 19, when he said doctors had not cleared him to go beyond chipping and putting.

He announced on his website May 28 that he would skip the U.S. Open, after missing the Masters in April. The British Open tees off July 17 at Royal Liverpool.
