A 3-year-old boy drowned in the backyard pool of his Staten Island home last night, cops said.
Ryan Pisapia was at a pool party with other kids at the house on Alysia Court in Rossville, neighbors said.
A woman who called 911 shortly after 8 p.m. said Ryan had been left unattended for about five to 10 minutes, an FDNY source said. Officials did not confirm whether that was the case.
An off-duty firefighter was at the scene and performed CPR before an ambulance arrived, according to the source.
“He ran from the side of the house to put him in the ambulance, but the child appeared lifeless, really,” said Frank Petito, who lives nearby.
“The mother was hysterical. There were a lot of people outside, a lot of children.”
People at the scene were praying aloud, Staten Island Advance reported.
Ryan was taken to Staten Island University Hospital, where he died.
He had four siblings, according to another neighbor.
