‘Killer DUI’ mom tries jail suicide

The mother accused of drunkenly taking a station wagon full of kids on a deadly hell ride on the Upper West Side has made repeated attempts to hang herself since the accident, her lawyer revealed today.

Carmen Huertas, 31, has tried to commit suicide a “number of times” since the Oct. 11 crash that left six kids — including her own daughter — injured and 11-year-old Leandra Rosado dead, Steven Rubin said outside Manhattan Supreme Court yesterday.

“She’s tried to place objects around her neck,” he said.

“She’s confused and devastated, and understands the consequences of her actions, ” Rubin said after his client made her first physical appearance in court since the accident.

Huertas has previously appeared only via video from Elmhurst Hospital, where she’d been recovering from her own injuries.
