Jets’ Sanchez: Surgery went ‘exceptionally well’

Mark Sanchez’s knee surgery was a success.

That news came from Sanchez, who had surgery on his left knee yesterday at Morristown Memorial Hospital and later delivered this message on his Twitter account:

“Out of surgery. Doc says it went exceptionally well. Thx to Dr Montgomery. Thx to family, friends & tweeps for the love and well wishes.”

Responding to Sanchez’ Twitter message was one from Jets kicker Jay Feely, saying, “Great news.”

KICKER FOLK TO TRY OUT

Sanchez had the surgery to stabilize the area around the patella in his left knee, which he dislocated in college. It was conducted by Jets orthopedists Dr. Ken Montgomery and Dr. Elliott Hershman.

Recovery is slated to be around two months, which means Sanchez is expected to be ready to be at full speed by training camp in late July. Sanchez will be limited in some offseason minicamps.

“Talking with Dr. Montgomery, the analogy he gave me was, ‘Your car’s out of alignment. Either you keep driving like it is and keep thinking about it and keep worrying about it, keep having to wear a brace and stuff like that, or you get this thing fixed, nip it in the bud right now, and it’ll be fine,’ ” Sanchez said a few days before the Super Bowl earlier this month.

“Honestly, I think it’s the right move,” Sanchez said. “I thought about it for a few days now and it’s just one of those things that I don’t want to have to worry about.”
