Checking in with Rangers and Devils in Vancouver

The Post’s Dan Martin tracks yesterday’s best Olympic performances by Rangers, Devils and Islanders:

HENRIK LUNDQVIST, Sweden

After leading Sweden to gold in 2006 without recording a shutout, Lundqvist stopped all 21 shots he faced in a 2-0 win over Germany last night. Despite not getting much offensive support — something he’s grown accustomed to dealing with as a Ranger — Lundqvist remained undefeated in his Olympic career.

ILYA KOVALCHUK, Russia

Since being traded from Atlanta, the normally prolific Kovalchuk has scored just once in six games for the Devils. Apparently, he’s making more of an immediate impact with his most recent team. He opened the Olympics late Tuesday night with a goal and an assist in Russia’s 8-2 win over Latvia. Kovalchuk took five shots and played 15:02. He and his teammates figure to have a tougher test tonight when they take on Slovakia.

OLLI JOKINEN, Finland

One of the Rangers’ most-recent additions, Jokinen — who has a pair of goals in six games since joining the Blueshirts — took just one shot in 16:55 on the ice in Finland’s 5-1 victory over Belarus. Fortunately for Jokinen and the Finns, that shot hit the back of the net. Finland will next face Germany tomorrow night.
