Rangers sign Chris Bourque, son of the Hall of Famer

After making a splash Tuesday with the signing of defenseman Dan Boyle, the Rangers added a player Wednesday for depth up front — and his name may ring a bell.

The team came to terms on a contract with forward Chris Bourque, the son of Hall of Famer Ray Bourque, who spent the bulk of his 22-year NHL career with the Rangers’ nemeses, the Bruins. Financial details of the contract were not disclosed.

The younger Bourque is returning to the NHL after spending last season in Europe, where he split time between Ak Bars Kazan of the Kontinental Hockey League in Russia and EHC Biel of National League A in Switzerland. In 32 games between the two teams, he scored 15 points.

The Rangers will be Bourque’s third NHL team.

From 2007 to 2010, he appeared in 13 games for the Capitals, scoring one goal. He spent the 2013 season with the Bruins, appearing in 18 games and totaling four points.

The move also re-unites Chris with his younger brother Ryan, a prospect in the Rangers’ system who spent last season with the Hartford Wolf Pack of the AHL.
